Kaw Point Park in Kansas City

1. History

When Captain Meriwether Lewis and Lieutenant William Clark arrived at Kaw Point on June 26, 1804, they camped there for three days while they repaired their boats and hunted. Today, this small park showcases the Corps of Discovery and a stunning view of downtown Kansas City.

The eagles are among the most recognizable wildlife at Kaw Point, where they have nesting sites year-round. On Saturday, bald eagle watchers brushed off the rain to spot the birds at Eagle Days, sponsored by Friends of Kaw Point Park.

A volunteer with Operation WildLife brought a variety of injured and orphaned animals to the park, including one that was hit by a car and is permanently paralyzed.
